INPCS Leadership: Victor McConvey

Victor McConvey, OAM, RN, MACN
Member At-Large, INPCS Board of Directors

Victor McConvey is an accomplished nursing professional and internationally recognized leader in neuropalliative care. Qualifying as a Registered Nurse in 1990, Victor began his career in trauma and critical care, developing advanced clinical skills and a deep understanding of palliative needs in acute settings. His early work in HIV/AIDS care during the 1990s was groundbreaking, helping to establish one of Australia’s first palliative care units for people with AIDS—a role that demanded exceptional clinical expertise, advocacy, and diplomacy.

Victor later transitioned to neurology, managing a specialist unit for motor neuron disease (MND/ALS) and other complex neurological conditions. There, he pioneered collaborative care models integrating neurology, rehabilitation, and palliative care. His commitment to improving access and knowledge in neuro-palliative care has driven his involvement in education, policy development, and international task forces.

Currently serving as Director of Health and Community Services at Fight Parkinson’s, Victor influences policy at state, federal, and global levels, contributing to initiatives on advanced care planning and voluntary assisted dying legislation. He has held leadership roles within the International Movement Disorder Society, including Chair of the Health Professional Section and the Global Palliative Care Task Force, and has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and international guidelines.

Victor’s contributions have been recognized with multiple awards, including the Order of Australia (2022) for services to nursing and Parkinson’s care. A frequent speaker at global conferences, he remains dedicated to advancing neuro-palliative care models and ensuring equitable access to care for people living with neurological illness worldwide.
